September

12,13:(Sat, Sun) Integrating Facial Rejuvenation into YOUR Practice ~ Acupressure’s power for facial rejuvenation manifests in different ways: It helps the body regulate the free flow of Qi and blood to facilitate nutrient absorption. It encourages lymph drainage and enhances the skin’s ability to “breathe.” It stimulates the skin’s own ability for collagen production, softening the skin and smoothing wrinkles, and promotes normal secretion from the sweat and oil glands. It regulates and stimulates internal organ system function and promotes muscle contraction.

This two day workshop you will learn the massage techniques and acupressure points incorporated into a facial rejuvenation routine.  You will learn the muscles and nerves that are accessed during a facial and how the routine relaxes taut muscles and stimulates the nervous system to tighten the slack muscles. Your clients will love how they look, and feel as it not only rejuvenates the face – but the whole body as well!
There will practice sessions on both days. Facial rejuvenation can become an income generating part of your practice as a stand alone offering – or a half hour add-on to the standard massage. It is also helpful to you as the therapist as it involves much less wear and tear on the body than standard massage!!

Please bring sheets, towel, your own personal face lotion, massage oil and washcloth. Facial masks will be provided – but please bring your own if you have sensitive skin. (NCBTMB CEU Hours Granted)

3: Saturday ~ Clinical Aromatherapy with Lavender and Tea Tree ~ This workshop is designed to explore the concept of clinical aromatherapy, defined as the skilled use of essential oils for therapeutic use. We’ll discuss the clinical use of two versatile oils, lavender and tea tree, including folklore, chemistry, therapeutic indications, safety, methods of application and relevant scientific studies.
Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing complementary therapies in the United States today, yet is often misunderstood. For many, the word aromatherapy conjures the image of scented candles and potpourri. Clinical Aromatherapy is not only good for the soul, It is powerful plant medicine that can be used quite well with most any healing modality. Attendees will be awarded NCBTMB CEU’s (nursing CEU’s pending).

Presented by Donna Whyte-English, MSN, FNP-BC, CCAP  Time: 1 - 4 PM   Cost:$95.00 ( includes 2 ml of either oil)

10,11:24,25 (2 week-ends) Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory & Terminology ~ (Pre-Requisite for Chinese Herbology Program to start April 2010 or Stand Alone Class) ~ This is a powerful course for anyone interested in the Differential Diagnosis of  Traditional Chinese Medicine and it's uses today. Aroma therapists, Body workers, Massage therapists, and other wellness practitioners benefit from incorporating this holistic perspective of the human energetic systems.

Through recognition of patterns, TCM describes disharmonies without diagnosing  disease.  By studying this material, patients of TCM practitioners can increase their understanding of the perspective of Chinese medicine, and participate more fully in their treatment.

This course also serves as the foundation on which our Chinese Herbology Intensive is built upon. All our courses are taught with an emphasis on clinical diagnosis as practiced in China today.

Course Objective: Among the distinctive perspectives of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the Eight Principle theory. The Eight Principle theory is the foundation for differential  diagnosis. This course offers a student the opportunity to learn about the terminology and diagnostic skills needed for accurately recognizing the clinical signs and symptoms of the patterns of disharmonies
.

Laura’s work with major hospitals & holistic practitioners since 1995 enhances her teaching and healing skills and helps make her an expert in her field.
She was enlisted as a co-investigator on a clinical randomized trial study for UCONN Medical Center utilizing Chinese Herbal Therapy to help with the symptoms of menopause in breast cancer patients. 4,18,31,Nov.1,15,Dec. 6 (6 Sundays): Acupressure to Enhance Your Practice ~ Both practicing massage therapists and students will find that enrolling in acupressure classes can be beneficial to professional and personal aspects of their lives. Students will learn the Traditional Asian Medicine approach to treating and preventing health imbalances through the healing philosophies of the Five Elements and Organ Systems.

Students will learn how to map meridians in the human body and gain insight into how energy flow in these meridians can affect health and produce unwanted symptoms.  By learning which organ systems/meridians are out of balance the therapist can develop a strategy to address their client’s symptoms.

Acupuncture courses teach students how to utilize needles in treatment; whereas this class is intended to teach students how to use the same pressure points in noninvasive touch patterns. Consequently health imbalances can be treated by facilitating various acupressure points through finger depressions. There will be ample opportunity to practice/exchange each weekend.

As a successful graduate or massage therapist, your clients look to you as part of their healthcare team. Integrating acupressure into your practice not only improves your professional image, but enhances the level of quality treatment you can extend to your clients. Many students also become more aware of imbalances in themselves as they go through this class –leading to a better understanding of their own health and well-being!

(It should be noted that at this time, no state has authorized separate licensing for practicing herbologists. In many states, only acupuncturists or Naturopaths can legally prescribe herbs
using a western diagnosis. However... that does not prevent an herbologist from suggesting formulas in accordance with Chinese Medical Theory)

So it is not using or suggesting herbs that is at issue
...but diagnosing a Western-named disease
without having a medical license.
There are thousands of herbalists in America and Europe. (In the West, Herbologists have
been accepted as healers for hundreds of years.
In China, Herbalists have been mainstays of the medical healing arts for thousands of years.
